Open Question: how much pain should i feel when doing ankle rehabilitation exercises?

I fractured my fibula 5 1/2 weeks ago and have been wearing an orthopedic boot. I’ve started to walk a little bit around the house without the boot and can do so with a bit of a limp and no pain. My ankle is a bit stiff, and my calf muscle has shrunk dramatically, so I’m assuming the limp is semi-normal. I’ve been taking my ankle out of the boot at least once a day for the last week or so to massage it and try and regain some movement. I want to start doing some rehabilitation exercises to regain strength but I do experience some minimal pain when doing exercises that i’ve seen online specifically for ankle rehab. How much pain is normal to experience when trying to regain strength and flexibility? I don’t want to push it too hard, but I would expect that the joint and muscles will want to resist the movement since it’s been immobile for over a month.

Also, I broke the ankle on the outside, but I experience the minute pain both at the fracture point and on other points around the ankle joint. Does this sound normal as well? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Open Question: Might have a broken finger?

I was playing basketball on Saturday, I went for a steal, hit the ball pretty hard, and thought I hurt my finger. I stayed in the game, and got swatted on the same finger. i knew something was wrong. I have a huge bruise on the 2nd joint of my index finger, but i can bend it most of the way. I can make a fist. If someone can tell me if my finger is just jammed or broken, I would appreciate.

Open Question: Do I need to worry about brain damage/death I may have caused?

Alright, I’ll try to say this as simply as I can.

Five years ago when I was 12, I rented a surfboard and headed out to a beach in NZ. I was inexperienced and so was only using it as a bodyboard for the time being. The waves weren’t going “too” fast, but as I was coming over a wave, a girl (I’d say she was 10-12) popped out of the water and I wasn’t able to react quick enough. The front of the surfboard hit her in the forehead and the surfboard kept going. By the time I could safely wipeout, the beach had crowded up and I was far away from where the incident happened. So I couldn’t see where the girl was.

I was reassured everything would be fine from my family. So I let it go. But, when I search things up on google etc.. I notice quite a few deaths from being struck in the head with a surfboard, so this makes me paranoid. I decided to email the lifeguards of the beach and their records aren’t specific, but a 15 y/o was resuced from the surf and ambulanced to hospital, the details of her injury or the outcome weren’t noted. They said the injury happened on the 17th of January, I was on holiday from the 15th till the 22nd, aand I thought it was towards the latter part of the trip (say 19th or 20th), but I can’t be too sure.

I decided to contact the NZ Water Safety, they didn’t have any drowning records, so I don’t have to worry about having knocked her out and then drowning.

I contacted the Police and they don’t have a record of such an incident, but they said they generally don’t become involved.

So even if I can rule out immediate death or drowning. It’s not uncommon for people to be hit in the head, be fine, but then a few hours later for their condition to complicate and then death can happen later on, say a few hours after. Eg. Fine after hitting their head, but then feeling headaches later on and then dying from some kind of stroke. This wouldn’t have been reported anywhere?

I’ve checked newspaper archives and found nothing.

I may be worrying myself to an early grave, but I keep thinking to myself. All these people who have died from surfing head injuries, what makes my situation any different?

So basically my question. do I need to worry about the possibility of having killed that girl? Is it likely she would’ve died as a result of my hit. I wouldn’t say I was going too fast as the waves weren’t too big, but there was still decent impact.

Thanks

Open Question: Broken leg help, not ready to return to work?

My boyfriend snapped his tib and fib clean in half 3 months ago today, after a serious operation and lots of metal being put in his leg he was signed off work. 6 weeks ago he was told to put only 30% of his weight on it and 2 weeks ago was meant to start building that up. His doctors note ran out today and he returned to the hospital where a doctor told him he wouldn’t be signed off work any longer and would have to learn to walk over the weekend and return to work Monday?
He’s had no physio and can’t even walk with one crutch let alone none.
Obviously if he doesn’t go back to work an doesn’t have a doctors note he’ll get fired, buy he’s simply not in any fit state to return?

What’s the best thing he can do?
Grateful for any advise! X

Open Question: Post Concussion Syndrome and Exercising?

I got two concussions one month apart a year ago and I am still dealing with some symptoms. They have gotten better but I am still not 100%. My concussion doctor told me to start exercising a little bit now but to stop when any symptoms start to come on. Lately, I have been doing resistance bands in my basement and I haven’t felt dizzy, no nausea, don’t have a headache and vision is pretty normal. however, in the middle of my workout I start to get this ear feeling like I am on a plane. I have a history with allergies, but I don’t think this is the case. Is this a sign of a post concussion symptom and to stop, or no? It doesn’t hurt, it just feels like my ears are clogged.

Open Question: How do I know if I sprained or broke my wrist?

Today I was snowboarding. I was going pretty fast (I’m a good snowboarder.) and I was trying to stop but next thing I knew the board was controlling itself and it flew off my feet (my feet weren’t very secure for some reason), broke a window (of an old junker car that the owner was going to beat with a golf club anyway, at least that’s what he said) and I was on the ground and landed on my wrist. I didn’t get much medical attention then because I didn’t think it was too bad. On the school bus on the way home (it was a field trip) a kid punched me in that same wrist at least 3 times because I wouldn’t give him my iPod. It hurt like heck! I heard when you break something you get nauseated. I have never understood why. Please don’t tell me why; this is about my wrist. My symptoms are:

Nausea (minor)

Pain

(Oddly, no swelling)

I’m wearing a wrist brace right now (for precaution) and am at home.

Did I break it, sprain it, or what?

PS: Some other kids broke/fractured their wrists and I saw some of the breaks and fractures. My wrist doesn’t look anything like theirs’. I hope I punctuated right…
Hmm… I’m not sure why I didn’t e-mail my science teacher first. My science teacher won’t check her school e-mail until Monday, so don’t ignore this. If it goes too long without answers, I will extend the expiration. By now the nausea has gone from minor to little little itty bitty. DON’T EXPLAIN WHY I HAVE NAUSEA.
According to Avery, I sprained it. I can move it. Barely, but I can move it so I think I sprained it. If anyone has a better answer, please answer it with your answer.
